Howzat for an amazing, six-hitting Scarborough seaside sojourn this week!

County cricket returns to Scarborough this week with Yorkshire taking on Essex on Tuesday (6th August) and then on Thursday they welcome Leicestershire – both games are in the One Day Cup.

There’s few more celebrated and idyllic venues to watch cricket than at Scarborough’s wonderful North Marine Road ground which is on top of the cliffs, and a pebble-throw away from views of the magnificent North Bay below. Cricket in the sun, here in ‘Scarbados’ is the most paradisical of experiences. With its capacity of 11,500 and the backdrop of tall guest houses and the sound of seagulls flying over, this intimate setting is like no other.

Open the innings with a beachside treat!

What’s more scenic thrill seekers can make it the ultimate day out with a wonderful trip on the Beachcomber open top bus which starts at Scarborough railway station, heads on into town, whirling its way through the famous old town, then along the South Bay, past the big Ferris wheel, action-packed amusement arcades, fish and chip restaurants and the Funfairs before venturing round the North Bay, with the castle high above atop the cliffs! With glistening waves kissing the esplanade below, the bus ventures to Peasholm Park (pictured below) with its fab boating lake and narrow gauge railway. Round to Sealife Centre then back to Peasholm Park (see below) where cricket lovers can disembark and make the 5 minute walk to the ground.  Beachcomber’s brilliant, so to discover more, go to…Beachcomber – Great Scenic Journeys

The cricket starts at 11:00 so there’s plenty of time to enjoy the Beachcomber before the first bowl is bowled or maybe during the 45 minute lunch interval. Alternatively, if the match finishes early, then why not wander down to Peasholm Park for your open top bus fix.

Whilst Essex are in 7th spot in their Group, with Yorkshire one place above, Leicestershire are the current Cup holders and honing in on qualification in 4th spot, once again showing their credentials as a great ‘white ball’/one day team! The close boundaries at Scarborough tend to make for high scoring matches, whilst there’s always a great atmosphere with big crowds and a unique climate zone that tends to bring sunshine or mist off the sea!
