Take a wander round Whalley Abbey

It is set in beautiful gardens and woodland beside the River Calder. It’s a place for quiet reflection and an opportunity to saunter around the historic buildings and ruins. Entry is free.

This 14th century gatehouse belonged to the nearby Cistercian Abbey which was once the second wealthiest monastery in Lancashire.

Enjoy a browse round the Platform Gallery, which is 2 minutes from the bus stop and has a great selection of crafts, textiles, glassware, ceramic and jewellery. There’s also a lovely café here too!

It’s a short walk now to Clitheroe Castle Grounds

A leisurely walk round the 16 acres of park surrounding Clitheroe is just the tonic for those seeking a bit of enchantment. The Labyrinth, War Memorial, Bandstand and Castle Keep are quaint features, whilst there’s also a children’s playground to help young ones burn off energy!

Onto the Clitheroe Castle Museum

Clitheroe Castle is a ruined early medieval structure and the Museum, situated in the Steward’s Gallery, showcases a social history collection containing 5,000 items, as well as natural history and archealogical artifacts.

This is a fab place just off Lowergate in the town centre and is a French-inspired bistro, but with something for everyone and showcases the best of local produce, and if you enjoyed your meal, then there’s a 10% discount on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from January 2025. Off to the big game as Clitheroe Town host Newcastle Town in a 15:00 kick off

It’s a 5-minute walk from the town centre to the delightful ground in Shawbridge Street and the match in the Northern Premier League West Division should be a cracker. There’s £2 off entry – ask your driver for a Transdev Treats voucher!
