57 Boston – Spalding

Journey Overview

Leaving Boston, the bus takes customers through the outskirts of the town, crossing the River Witham and into the rural landscape beyond. Sprawling fields of wheat and corn, dotted with the occasional farmhouse or barn soon emerge as the journey makes its way. In the distance, customers may spot the distinctive outline of wind turbines, a common sight in this part of the country.

As the bus travels through Wyberton and Algarkirk,  the countryside becomes more rolling and hilly, with fields giving way to pastureland dotted with sheep and cattle. 

The bus approaches Spalding and the scenery begins to change again, with the rolling hills giving way to the flat, fertile farmland that is a feature of much of this lovely region. Customers will enjoy the view offields of crops stretching out to the horizon, punctuated by the occasional clump of trees or winding stream. The bus travels close to the banks of the River Welland, offering glimpses of the sparkling water and the boats that ply its waters.

Finally, as the bus arrives in Spalding,  the church spires and town centre buildings rising up in the distance. From the bus, customers can enjoy a glimpse of the bustling streets and busy market square, before pulling into the bus station and concluding what has been a scenic sojourn through the heart of classic Lincolnshire.

Starting in Boston, a historic market town famous for its association with the Mayflower pilgrims, customers can visit the Boston Stump, the towering spire of St Botolph’s Church that dominates the town’s skyline. After exploring the town’s rich history, you can sample some of its local specialties, such as the famous Boston Sausage, at one of its many traditional pubs and cafes.

Next, hop on the 57 bus and make your way to the village of Wyberton, where you can visit the picturesque St Leodegar’s Church, a historic building that dates back to the 12th century and offers a peaceful and tranquil setting for reflection. Then, it’s back on board the 57 and to Algarkirk, where you can take a relaxing walk through the countryside and enjoy the views of green fields, and the nearby River Witham.

Back on-board the 57 and this time to the end destination, Spalding, a charming market town located on the banks of the River Welland. Here, you can visit the popular Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens, a stunning 15th-century manor house that is now open to the public as a museum. You can also explore the town’s many shops, cafes, and restaurants, or relax in one of its many parks and gardens, such as the picturesque Tulip Festival Garden, which is famous for its colourful displays of tulips in the springtime.
