Journey Overview

Moors Bus will start operating on 3 June 2023.

There can be no better way to travel round the rugged, yet beautiful North York Moors than on the Moors Explorer.

Running on select Sundays and bank holidays during the summer, the Moors Explorer provides a perfect way to explore the quaint, idyllic villages, culminating in the picturesque Hutten le Hole and Moors National Park Centre at Danby. The service uniquely takes customers up to some of the most fabulous spots on the Moors, including serving Malton and Pickering. The service is also the gateway to some stunning walks and at the other end of this fascinating route, there’s the culture, shopping and nightlife of Hull.

Alternatively, by Megabus from Leeds. Megabus run direct services to Leeds from London, Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Derby, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and many major towns and cities across the UK.

A Fab Day Out!

If you absolutely love your food, then Malton’s the place to make your first venture off the Moors Explorer. Known as the ‘Food Capital of Yorkshire’, it has a famous food festival, monthly food market, cookery school and ‘Made in Malton’ artisan producers. There’s plenty to see and do too, including Flamingo Land Theme Park and Resort and the Brass Castle Brewery.

Further along on this magnificent journey is the charming town of Pickering. The 13^th century castle is definitely worth a visit and then a trip on the stunning North Yorkshire Moors Railway which stetches through the heart of the unbelievable North Yorkshire Moors countryside. If you want to desert the bus for a bit and be more adventurous, the countryside around Pickering is criss-crossed with hundreds or miles of footpaths and bridleways offering countless opportunities to explore, taking in dramatic moorland vistas, woodland trails or coastal tracks.

Then, it’s off to Hutten le Hole, which lies in a natural hollow or hole, hence its name! It’s a village full of ambient charm and mystique where folk are perfectly at one with nature. Check out Ryedale Folk museum which is home to over 20 reconstructed buildings, including Iron Age roundhouse, Tudor Mansion, vintage photographer’s studio, craft workshops and fam buildings. If you have time, then there’s a languid 2-mile walk to the charming Lastingham and its ancient church, St Mary’s which features an atmospheric Norman crypt.
