Land’s End Coaster

Journey Overview

There’s sharp intakes of breath with every twist and turn on this incredible open-top bus journey, not just at cliff-top height but when descending left, then right down to sea-level on the narrowest of roads at Sennen’s Cove. This is the bus that links Land’s End with civilisation and the journey starts at sunny St. Ives with its carefree Cornwall coastal life, of the widest sandy beaches and clear blue sea, of pancakes, pasties and ice-cream cones and the shrill of seagulls above.

Land’s End is uniquely situated on the most westerly tip of Britain with stunning views onto the English Channel and Atlantic Coast, as well as entertaining attractions for young and old. But first, there’s the fascinating Geevor Tin Mine en route and Levant Mine and Beam Museum to look out for as well as the surfers in Sennon before arriving at the very end of Land, where it can get a little windswept but under clear blue skies the views are always endless.

The bus takes around 90 minutes from St Ives to Land’s End, but there’s a round-trip to be enjoyed by continuing on the Lands End Coaster as it takes a turn round the other side of the cliff and makes an oh so gradual and twisting descent towards the charming seaside town of Penzance where a fish and chip tea awaits before boarding the 17 bus which will take you alongside Carbis Bay and back to St. Ives to complete your amazing circular journey round the tip of Britain! If you’ve got time, maybe stop off 5 minutes from Penzance at the town of Marazion and visit St Michael’s Mount, a tidal island in Mount’s Bay and feel like you are walking on water as you make your way to the Castle and Chapel which is a unique National Trust site.

A Fab Day Out!

Penzance is the starting point of this great route, and it has several attractions worth exploring. The Penlee House Gallery and Museum showcases the history and art of West Cornwall, while the Egyptian House is an iconic example of 19th-century architecture. You can also take a stroll along the seafront promenade or explore the tropical gardens of Morrab Gardens.

Onto the bus and the first recommended stop-off is at Marazion, a small town that boasts one of the most famous landmarks in Cornwall, St Michael’s Mount. The mount is a tidal island that can be reached on foot at low tide or by boat. The castle and gardens on the mount are open to the public, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline.

Back on-board, this time to Carbis Bay, which is a small and secluded beach that is perfect for a quiet picnic or a swim in the sea. It is surrounded by beautiful cliffs and woodland, and there are several walking trails in the area.

Then, it’s a trip slightly northwards to St. Ives, a picturesque fishing town that has been a popular holiday destination for over a century. It is known for its beautiful beaches, art galleries, and quaint shops. The Tate St Ives museum showcases contemporary art, while the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden celebrates the work of the famous sculptor.

Onto the Land’s End Coaster, once more and to Zennor, with its rich history and legend. The village is said to be the home of the Mermaid of Zennor, and there is a carved pew in the local church that depicts the legend. There are also several walking trails in the area that offer stunning views of the coastline.

The journey continues to Geevor, which is a former tin mine that is now a museum. The museum offers guided tours of the mine, as well as exhibitions and displays that showcase the history of the Cornish mining industry.

The fun doesn’t stop and back onboard and it’s onwards to St Just. This is a fabulous historic mining town that is now a designated World Heritage Site. The town has several attractions, including the St Just Mining District, which is a group of mines that date back to the 18th century. There are also several walking trails in the area that offer stunning views of the coastline.

Down the cliff the bus winds its way to Sennen, which is a popular surfing destination that offers some of the best waves in the UK. The beach is also ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and walking, as well as ice-creams!

Finally, it’s to Land’s End, which is the final stop on the route, and it is one of the most iconic landmarks in England. The area is known for its stunning natural beauty and rugged coastline. Customers can take a walk along the clifftops, explore the Land’s End Visitor Centre, or take a photograph at the famous Land’s End signpost.

In Land’s End, visitors can explore the Land’s End Visitor Centre, which has several exhibitions, fun-packed attractions and displays that showcase the natural history and wildlife of the area. The centre also has a restaurant, shops, and a 4D cinema. Additionally, customers can take a walk along the clifftops and enjoy the stunning views of the coastline.

Then, the bus can be boarded round the cliff to Penzance to complete a fantastic circular tour and unforgettable, all-round experience!
